Comedy in 'Swiss Amy Man' Trailer

Here I have analysed the levels of comedy created throughout the trailer. The comedy of 'Swiss Army Man' is not concentrated so much on the visual aspect, but rather on the concept of a corpse being able to perform unnatural tasks that no human or creature would be able to do, such as shoot bullets from the mouth and act as a grappling hook and produce fresh water from the stomach. The comedy begins at the start of the trailer, after Hank (Paul Dano) attempts to hang himself. Whilst he is searching for a heartbeat or any sign of life and movement, Danny lets out gas much to Hank's surprise, this paired with the melancholic/ominous non diegetic music suddenly stopping generates this funny moment that perhaps reflects Hank's train of thought, as the panic and concern for this corpse immediately goes away. Despite there being a fair number of points throughout the trailer where the comedic element is utilised, there are still moments where the music changes and the accompanying voiceover also changes tone, and there is a seriousness and almost beauty to the trailer.
